Located in the Arts District of Los Angeles, this project aims to create a dynamic, sustainable office space that understands the current urban fabric while pushing the site into the future.
Dividing the building into four separate, smaller buildings allows the site to maintain its connection with its surroundings, as the buildings rise from the ground to the same level of the adjacent buildings.
The four buildings also create a unique inner public courtyard which serves the surrounding interior market spaces at ground level, fitting in line with the idea of discovery that is so prominent in the Arts District.
Through the use of wood shear walls, interior spaces are open and flexible, and connect the user to nature.
The Tree House takes advantage of Southern California’s climate with its functional facade. Natural lighting is controlled by a green facade system that provides the same interior shading that the leaves of a tree would provide, blurring the division between exterior and interior and fostering a harmonious relationship between landscape and hardscape.
